Naveed Haq and Richard Silverstein: Blood Blothers
Naveed Haq was recently convicted of the first-degree murder for his attack on the Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle in July of 2006. Haq has found an ironic supporter in anti-Israel “peace activist” Richard Silverstein. Silverstein, himself a Seattle resident since 1998 has this to say about Haq:
As for the Islam-haters out there who are circulating this verdict with glee because you believe it proves there is a Muslim hate machine, think again. All this verdict proves is that one terribly ill individual fell victim to his personal demons and acted out in a horribly violent fashion. The motivation for his acting out happened to be hatred of Israeli violence against Palestinians. But he was no more capable of understanding the full implications of what he was doing than any seriously-ill paranoid schizophrenic is.
So Haq had a motivation, but somehow he was not capable of understanding it? I am not sure what the difference between Naveed Haq and Richard Silverstein is, other than their choice of weapons. I’m sure that Seattle’s Jewish community is aware of what quack they have received from New York (Silverstein’s previous home). Silverstein, like Haq, has shown his disdain for Israel. However, Haq doesn’t claim to have an understanding of Judaism. The tragedy in Silverstein’s case is not the physical casualties, but the emotional and spiritual burden he places on other Jews because of his botched understanding of Judaism.
